"The 45,222 total gun deaths in 2020 were by far the most on record,
representing a 14% increase from the year before, a 25% increase from
five years earlier and a 43% increase from a decade prior.

"Gun murders, in particular, have climbed sharply in recent years. The
19,384 gun murders that took place in 2020 were the most since at
least 1968, exceeding the previous peak of 18,253 recorded by the CDC
in 1993. The 2020 total represented a 34% increase from the year
before, a 49% increase over five years and a 75% increase over 10
years."
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/

"The FBI found an increase in active shooter incidents between 2000
and 2020. There were three such incidents in 2000; by 2020, that
figure had increased to 40."

As journalists descend on Uvalde, as they did on Columbine,
Newtown, and Parkland, some are questioning whether a more
graphic approach is required to capture the reality of America’s
gun violence epidemic. "It’s time," suggests one industry leader,
"to show what a slaughtered 7-year-old looks like."

What do you call a smart Democrat?

You can't. There aren't any.

What do you call a smart Republican?

A Democrat.

The discussion is about domestic gun deaths and you want to shoehorn
war into it?

THE DISCUSSION IS *NOT* ABOUT WAR.

Stop playing the same tired, old games. It's time to get outside the
problem and look for solutions. These might include spending money on
mental health. Add to school curricula things that certain parent
don't teach their kids like proper socialization and responsibility
for self. Challenge Hollywood to get away from violence in
entertainment. Whatever it takes.

What I'm trying to convey in all my discussions is that we need to
work towards ways to change the culture. It's the only way to
preserve the second.

Where do you see ANYTHING about war in there?

Where do you see anything about "domestic"?

Don't blame me for the failure of your presentation.

Besides...... If we're going to go there... then you can't found those
deaths because they occurred during a war. Specifically "The war on crime",
and crime is fighting back.

Oh, and there are NO "gun deaths"... guns are inanimate objects that were
never alive and thus can't die.

The entire thread has been about US gun violence, specifically mass
shootings, and you know it. Changing the subject, moving the
goalposts, rewriting history, call it what you will.

The discussion is and has been about domestic gun violence *not* war
or the gun grabbers wouldn't be in here talking about gun control.
Nobody it their right mind would complain about military gun use,
fool.

You want to talk about gun death in wartime? Restricting weapons on
the battlefield? Start a thread on it.

Seems to me that topic applies to ANY situation in which guns kill.

Changing the subject, moving the
goalposts, rewriting history, call it what you will.
Well at least you're admitting that's what you're trying to do.

Beside, your numbers really don't mean anything because you're looking at
totals. If you were being honest you would be looking at per capita rates
which eliminates population size as a factor.

Because if you actually looked at that sort of data, you would realize how
misleading your information is.

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/ft_22-01-26_gundeaths_2/

In this graph we see a HIGH of 7.7/100K back in around 1976 for homicide and
a high of 7.2 around 1974... with a combined high around 1975..

The CURRENT rates seem to be 7.0 for homicide and 6.2 for suicides.

In other words the rate is DOWN... but you would like to try to get people
to think it's worse now than before simply because of a change in
population.

No problem, since you should now STFU.. and start your OWN threat about just
what YOU want to lie about.

Because here the topic is "Gun killings" doesn't matter when, where or how
they happen. It would be in war, it could be in peace, it could be illegal,
it could be legal, it could even be court ordered.. if someone died because
they were shot with a gun, then that applies to THIS thread.

So, if you want to play NetCop.. you should obey your own fucking rules.

Creative editing and lying won't help you either.

I wrote that gun deaths have been trending up for decades. That's a
fact.

You tried to deny it, you were wrong.

Then you edited out part of what I said and tried to make it seem I'd
said something else.

Those tricks are for lamers who've lost the argument.

If you don't think gun deaths have been trending up for decades, prove
it. With credible, reliable sources. Pulling lies out your ass won't
do the job.

No, they aren't when you look at rates which is how you SHOULD do it,
otherwise an increasing population will be increasing the numbers even
though nothing has changed in the situation other than the population.

Are you going to blame gun deaths on people fucking?

That's your current argument.

The solution of such an argument would then seem to be to kill half the
population. Gun deaths would then decrease by 50%

It would also solve the housing problem, lower emissions, reduce highway
traffic, etc, etc, etc,

No, they aren't when you look at rates which is how you SHOULD do it,
Then do it that way. Too lazy? I'll do it.

Let's lay down a reference point with population growth.
"Why U.S. Population Growth Is Collapsing"
https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2022/03/american-population-growth-rate-slow/629392/

"The U.S. population grew at the slowest pace in history in 2021,
according to census data released last week. That news sounds extreme,
but it’s on trend. First came 2020, which saw one of the lowest U.S.
population-growth rates ever. And now we have 2021 officially setting
the all-time record.

"U.S. growth didn’t slowly fade away: It slipped, and slipped, and
then fell off a cliff. The 2010s were already demographically
stagnant; every year from 2011 to 2017, the U.S. grew by only 2
million people. In 2020, the U.S. grew by just 1.1 million. Last year,
we added only 393,000 people."

If you had bothered to read the article I linked as a resource,
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/
you would have found this:

"How has the number of U.S. gun deaths changed over time?

"The 45,222 total gun deaths in 2020 were by far the most on record,
representing a 14% increase from the year before, a 25% increase from
five years earlier and a 43% increase from a decade prior."

Those numbers are clearly faster than population growth so guess what?
You lose again.

and

"Gun murders, in particular, have climbed sharply in recent years. The
19,384 gun murders that took place in 2020 were the most since at
least 1968, exceeding the previous peak of 18,253 recorded by the CDC
in 1993. The 2020 total represented a 34% increase from the year
before, a 49% increase over five years and a 75% increase over 10
years."

Much faster than population growth.

and

"While 2020 saw the highest total number of gun deaths in the U.S.,
this statistic does not take into account the nation’s growing
population. On a per capita basis, there were 13.6 gun deaths per
100,000 people in 2020 – the highest rate since the mid-1990s, but
still well below the peak of 16.3 gun deaths per 100,000 people in
1974."

Bearing in mind with these figures,

"In the CDC’s database, gun murders and gun suicides between 1968 and
1978 are classified as those caused by firearms and explosives. In
subsequent years, they are classified as deaths involving firearms
only."

So the next time I post information with a link, read and use the
resource before you come for me.

As it turns out, I need a bit of correction; the murder RATE trend up
has been years rather than decades and the upturn has been very sharp
recently.
